Best humidity monitor for condensation: Tapo T310 or T315?

Know whether a bedroom is staying humid before spending money on a dehumidifier. Screen or app, hub or no hub: the differences matter.

Updated 21 October 2026

Quick decision

Choose Tapo T315 if you want a visible 2.7-inch e-ink display without getting your phone out. Choose Tapo T310 if you already have a compatible Tapo hub and want a cheaper compact sensor with readings and alerts in the app. Both quote typical humidity accuracy of ±3 percentage points RH.

Do not overlook the hub. T310 requires a Tapo hub for connected operation. T315 displays measurements locally without a hub, but needs one for remote monitoring, graphs and smart automation. Check a hub bundle if you do not already own one.

How to check whether you need a dehumidifier

  1. Place the sensor away from a radiator, windowpane, direct sunlight or a drying rack so it reads the room rather than one local hot/cold spot.
  2. Record morning and evening humidity over a week, especially after cooking, showering and drying washing.
  3. Consider temperature alongside relative humidity: a cold room can reach high relative humidity with less water in the air than a warm room.
  4. If the room is persistently humid or windows are wet, investigate ventilation and moisture sources before selecting a suitable dehumidifier.
  5. If damp comes from penetrating rain, plumbing or rising water, arrange to fix the building issue rather than treating a monitor or dehumidifier as a cure.

Can a humidity monitor prevent mould?

Not by itself. A hygrometer measures air, not damp inside plaster. Surface temperature, ventilation, leaks and furniture placement also affect condensation and mould growth.

Do I need a smart monitor?

No. A simple inexpensive screen-only hygrometer can be better value if all you need is a quick reading. Connected Tapo options are more compelling when you already have their hub and need history or alerts.
