tado° X
tado X room-control devices support Matter and use Thread. The UK range includes thermostat and radiator-control products, but X is not backwards-compatible with V3+ and older generations.
Check tado compatibility ↗Matter smart heating · UK
Compare Matter smart thermostat approaches for UK boilers, radiators and floor heating, then check whether native Matter, Thread or a bridge fits your existing setup.
A Matter badge tells you about smart-home compatibility. It does not tell you whether a thermostat is the right electrical or heating-system version for your home.
The important difference
tado X room-control devices support Matter and use Thread. The UK range includes thermostat and radiator-control products, but X is not backwards-compatible with V3+ and older generations.
Check tado compatibility ↗Wiser can bring compatible Zigbee heating devices into supported Matter ecosystems through its 2nd Generation Hub. In other words, “Matter compatible” does not always mean each thermostat is a native Matter device.
Read Wiser's Matter guide ↗MOES sells different Matter thermostat versions for water heating, electric floor heating and water/gas boilers. You still need the version that matches the heating job.
Read MOES specifications ↗Matter over Thread
A Matter over Thread thermostat uses the Matter interoperability standard while Thread provides the low-power network underneath it. The phrase does not mean every Matter thermostat uses Thread, and it does not make the thermostat electrically compatible with every boiler or heating system.
For a Thread-based heating device, check two separate things: whether your smart-home setup has a compatible Thread Border Router, and whether the exact thermostat or receiver is designed for your heating interface.
Current options
One is for water/gas boiler heating and one is for electric floor heating. That difference matters more than the Matter logo itself.

MOES · current seller listing
£50.39
MOES lists a dedicated water/gas-boiler version and states a 5A current load for water heating and gas boiler variants.
Price and stock can change. Confirm the exact version before ordering.

MOES · current seller listing
£49.83
MOES lists a separate electric-heating version and states a 16A current load for that variant.
Price and stock can change. Confirm the exact version before ordering.
Before you buy
Why this matters now
Newer heating ranges are taking different routes into Matter: some use Thread directly, while others use a bridge. That makes the underlying setup worth checking before you choose a thermostat.
We currently link to MOES products where there is a direct buying route. tado and Wiser are included because they show the other common approaches and publish useful compatibility information.
Matter heating FAQs
No. Matter is about smart-home interoperability. You still need to check the exact thermostat version, boiler or heating interface and installation requirements.
Matter is the smart-home standard. Thread is one of the network technologies Matter devices can use. Some heating products use Matter over Thread, while others connect existing devices to Matter through a bridge.
It is a thermostat or heating-control device that uses the Matter smart-home standard over a Thread network. You still need a compatible Thread Border Router and the correct thermostat version for the heating system.
tado says its X products are not compatible with V3+ and older generations, so an existing tado setup needs checking before you buy X hardware.
Wiser's 2nd Generation Hub can bring compatible Wiser devices into a Matter ecosystem. The radiator thermostat itself still uses Zigbee within the Wiser system.
Smart-home compatibility is only one part of the job. Mains-powered heating controls, boiler interfaces and floor-heating loads still need to be installed in line with the product instructions and the applicable electrical or heating requirements. If the existing wiring or control interface is uncertain, use a competent installer.
