Short answer: Hardwiring to a switched supply does not necessarily power a dash cam while parked, but an always-on parking-mode connection can use battery energy with the ignition off. A camera-compatible hardwire kit with low-voltage protection can reduce the risk; it does not guarantee that a weak battery will still start the car.
Why parking mode uses power
A camera must remain powered to monitor a parked vehicle. A switched supply normally loses power with the relevant ignition state; a permanent supply can continue providing it. Some hardwire kits use both permanent and accessory inputs to manage that transition.
What low-voltage protection is for
Low-voltage protection is intended to disconnect or limit the camera when the supply reaches the kit’s configured condition. It reduces risk; it cannot make every vehicle, battery and usage pattern equivalent.
Why there is no universal run time or voltage answer
Battery age and condition, vehicle charging behaviour, temperature, camera consumption, recording settings and kit behaviour can all affect the result. Averquo therefore does not invent a runtime or prescribe a universal voltage threshold.
When professional installation is sensible
Use a competent installer when the correct circuit, fuse-tap type, cable route, warranty position or battery health is uncertain. Averquo also does not prescribe a vehicle fuse location.
