Birdfy Feeder 2 vs Pro vs Duo: the differences that justify the price jump
All three send bird visits to your phone. The real choice is whether you need a portrait lens, a second viewing angle, included solar power and a lifetime-AI package.
Birdfy now has a broad UK range, but the Feeder 2 family gives the cleanest like-for-like comparison. The base model uses one wide-angle camera; Pro adds a tracking portrait lens; Duo adds a side camera as well. All three use the Birdfy app and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Storage
Cloud only; 30-day retention on the free clip storage described by Birdfy
Birdfy says the free app provides live viewing, bird-arrival alerts, automatically recorded clips and monthly recaps. Species recognition is a separate cloud feature on some packages. The Feeder 2 is currently positioned around AI by subscription or one-time payment after trial; Pro offers lifetime-AI and subscription packaging; Duo is currently listed with lifetime AI.
That distinction matters because a cheaper feeder can become a worse long-term fit if you specifically want automatic species identification and do not want another recurring service.
Video storage
Cloud first — not local microSD playback.
Birdfy's current Feeder 2-series information says clips are stored in the cloud and that the free storage has a 30-day retention period. The microSD slot is not offered as normal user storage/playback.
If local-only storage is a requirement, this is an important limitation rather than a minor specification.
Simple choice
Which Feeder 2 model fits which kind of buyer?
Feeder 2
Start here if one 1080p view is enough and price matters more than portrait photography or an included solar panel.
Feeder 2 Pro
The middle option if the 2K tracking portrait lens is the feature you actually want, but a side camera is unnecessary.
Feeder 2 Duo
The premium option if you want the extra side view, dual-battery setup and the fullest camera package in this family.
Before buying
Four details that are easy to miss
Wi-Fi reach
All three use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Check that your garden mounting point has a usable signal before assuming the feeder will work at the far end of the garden.
Cloud dependence
Recorded clips rely on Birdfy's cloud service rather than normal microSD playback.
AI packaging
Do not assume every box includes lifetime species recognition. Check the exact option in the Birdfy checkout.
Squirrels
A seed guard is listed, but we have not found a manufacturer guarantee that the Feeder 2 series is universally squirrel-proof.
Independent October 2026 hands-on reviews show why resolution and headline price are not enough: a premium 4K competitor records 4K video at 15fps, while a lower-cost wooden competitor offers local microSD recording but a less polished app. These are competitor findings, not hands-on tests of Birdfy. If local-only storage is essential, the Feeder 2 family's cloud-first approach is unlikely to fit. Sources: Kiwibit 4K review and TT Nature budget review.
Buyer questions
Birdfy Feeder 2 FAQs
Does Birdfy work without paying for AI?
The Birdfy app still provides live viewing, alerts, recorded clips and monthly recaps without the AI recognition add-on. AI species recognition is packaged differently across the Feeder 2 range, so check the exact option at checkout.
Does Birdfy store video on a microSD card?
Birdfy says the Feeder 2 series uses cloud storage rather than microSD playback. Its current product information describes free clip storage with a 30-day retention period.
Do I need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?
Yes. Birdfy's current Feeder 2-series specifications list 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi rather than 5 GHz-only connectivity.
Is the Birdfy Feeder 2 Duo squirrel-proof?
Birdfy lists a seed guard, but the Feeder 2-series material we reviewed does not make a blanket squirrel-proof guarantee. Treat placement and local squirrel pressure as separate buying considerations.
How Averquo built this comparison
Prices and specifications were checked against Birdfy's current UK product pages on 3 October 2026. Averquo participates in Birdfy's Awin programme (advertiser 63888). Commission and attribution terms can change; this page does not claim a fixed current rate or cookie duration. We have not hands-on tested these feeders, so manufacturer feature claims are presented as documented specifications rather than our own test results.
